Skip's Last Ride Tuesday, 13 May 2008 Bruce 'Skip' Eklom Bruce 'Skip' Eklom In May 2008, Skip’s goal was to ride across America with his mates to “THE WALL” in Washington DC. Then back again to the west coast to return to Australia. A trip of 20,000 miles in the company of his mates. He saw this as the trip of a life time. One to remember and reminisce in his later years. Unfortunately, fate took control, as it does so many times in ones life. After a motorcycle accident in the USA, he had to be evacuated back to Australia. Skip's condition is not good and he is undergoing treatment in a Spinal Unit of a hospital on Brisbane's southside. Skip could really use your help right now. Ken Lees Lord Howe Island Posted on Sunday, 06 July 2008 11:51 Hi Guys. Really appreciate you guys and feel for the shit you all went through, and more to the point still going thru, in some cases. Bott line I'm a photographer and would so like to connect re the poss of getting some wicked shots for both you guys and my own collection on the understanding they are for private use only unless you want otherwise. They would be Hi Rez shots capable of being blown up to wall size. they more than likely would be B/W or though I'm sure the artistic side could bring the colour out. Regards Kenny. In hind site you probably have thousands already but would so love to spend some time taking some anyway.

Even if I dont get to take him anything he now has the link to your site Smile He took me to see the Wall in a game we play "Second Life" - I recommend if you play - to stop by and have a look, Shotgun says it is an EXACT replica. Being a girl - I cried and it was an emotional visit for me and although I am 20 years too young to appreciate what you boys went though ...... you have all my love and all my gratitude .... if young boys today had half the guts you have now Australia might just turn out to be a better country. This site is one of the BEST VVMC in Australia - love the Gallery and the quirky little comments, whats with the pig? *hugs* Donna

Lisa Meandarra QLD Posted on Wednesday, 28 May 2008 18:33 Hi, I have just watched the channel nine news story on Skip's journey home. I personally do not know skip or any one within your organization however I was so moved by the story I had to write. What wonderful men you are to support each other as family would in this time of crisis. All veteran's are already hero's in my book however seeing this story just rammed home how truely magnificent the heart beats within your organization. Thankyou for what you have done for us as a country and most importantly thanks for pointing out what true "Mateship" is all about, it was a very humbling story!!! I most certainly will be donating to skip's appeal and I will be encouraging all my "mates" too as well. Thanks

Leanne Gold Coast - Australia Posted on Friday, 16 May 2008 20:12 Thanks for the update on Skip. I saw it on the news last Friday and have been coming here every day looking for information, bu today was the first time I felt able to add an entry. Skip is an amazing person, one of he most generous people I have ever met, he has done a tremendous amount to try and improve the way our Government looks after our Veterans, not just Vietnam but all Veterans. Now is the perfect time for all of us to dig deep and help Skip when he needs it the most with our support; emotionally, physically and most important financially. I will definitely be making a donation to the appeal set up for him and I would encourage everyone else to do the same.
John D Alice Springs Posted on Tuesday, 13 May 2008 15:26 Keep on trucking boys. One question as an ex serving member of the Army 1975-1981 and did not serve in Vietnam. How will the group continue and sustain itself. Like most of you guys I'm getting long in the tooth. What will be the future of the VVMC then? No offence but I believe you guys have started a great tradition and wonder how it will continue in the years to come. Respect
